Data Protection

November 25, 2009

Data Protection-everyone talks about it, but what does it really mean?  I recently was at a conference, and three different industry experts defined data protection in three different ways. One individual claimed that they protected their data by using cloud services, another talked about how they protected their data through a DR site.  And although they both are technically right, data Protection is more than just a point solution, but a strategy to manage and mitigate your risk in your environment.  In can come from having a local copy of your critical data at your site, all the way to developing a full-scale DR plan for your environment.  The objection we here from customers, is that “they cannot afford” to build out a DR plan, and cost is an issue, however if you look at your most critical data, those systems, that you cannot have go down for a long periods of time, there are solutions out there that can help you protect your data locally, and also have a remote copy available, so you can have your systems up in a timely manner in case of failure.
